Don’t Stop: Get it, Get it!

So… it’s almost 1am, again. Valentines Day is over. We made it through another EPIC holiday.

Today we were up early packaging Cake Noms and packing the car. We made our first delivery at 9:30am, followed by 5 others. By 11:30am, I was back home, Jamilyah was already at work for a quick 9 hours, and the kitchen was quiet. We’d gotten rid of almost all of the cookie dough and baked goods, just in time to fill it up again. Don’t stop: Get it, Get it.

This afternoon we reached the last leg of our journey. With most of the Valentines orders out the door we were “free” to begin prepping for Turn Up the Heat – a fundraiser for Ovarian cancer research. The 2011 Women Chef Gala is tomorrow (Tuesday) night. Naturally, we are preparing a dessert course. With over 300 guests, each chef is making a tasting for 175 people. More

… And You Don’t Stop!

Sara and I have had a big day. Separately. And then together. We thought we’d share  with you a few of the things we’ve done.

Morning
I worked a full day. 9(ish) to 5(really 6)ish. I gave a few books to a few kids.
Sara started baking at 8am.

Midday
I ran Grassroots Gourmet errands at lunch, we needed tools. Bed, Bath & Beyond is heaven.
Sara did deliveries in the afternoon before going to our other heaven, Restaurant Depot. We needed supplies. More

Small Business, Big Community

Small Business, Big Community

The thing about owning a small business is that, it’s small. When someone asks, “Who’s the chef?” it’s you. When others ask, “Who writes your blog? Takes your pictures? Pays your bills?” … it’s still you.

But we are growing. We’ve been lucky to be able to bring on a web-team (shout out to Perez & Zed), and a graphic designer (Jaime) and guest photographers (Julie, Emily & Alex) at times. Seeing your ideas and visions come true with a talented team of friends is an awesome feeling. We feel like our family is growing. More

Office Holiday Parties

Office Holiday Parties

Tis the Season for Office Holiday Parties. Whether it’s a year-end fundraiser, a gathering of employees, or a happy hour to celebrate the holidays, people are gathering.

Last week we were asked to be a part of Choice USA‘s Holiday Party for the 2nd year. This fine organization mobilizes and provides ongoing support to the diverse, upcoming generation of leaders who promote and protect reproductive choice both now and in the future. We were delighted to give a repeat performance of sweet and treats for the staff, board and supporters of this important work. More

Hannukah

Hannukah

We wanted to take a minute and wish everyone a Happy Hannukah.

While this holiday is not the most important holiday to the Jewish people, it does get a lot of publicity due to the timing and proximity to Christmas. Hannukah is about freedom, dedication and standing-up for what you believe. So for those who don’t know about this holiday, here’s my short version of the story: More
