Don’t Stop: Get it, Get it!

So… it’s almost 1am, again. Valentines Day is over. We made it through another EPIC holiday.

Today we were up early packaging Cake Noms and packing the car. We made our first delivery at 9:30am, followed by 5 others. By 11:30am, I was back home, Jamilyah was already at work for a quick 9 hours, and the kitchen was quiet. We’d gotten rid of almost all of the cookie dough and baked goods, just in time to fill it up again. Don’t stop: Get it, Get it.

This afternoon we reached the last leg of our journey. With most of the Valentines orders out the door we were “free” to begin prepping for Turn Up the Heat – a fundraiser for Ovarian cancer research. The 2011 Women Chef Gala is tomorrow (Tuesday) night. Naturally, we are preparing a dessert course. With over 300 guests, each chef is making a tasting for 175 people.

Now, we’ll never claim to be perfect, so the 175 number really means 200-225 pieces, just in case. As family-style bakers we were not going to try a fancy dessert with chocolate curls or home-made ice creams. Instead we decided to feature 3 of our favorite bite-sized treats: mini Red Velvet cupcakes, mini John Hancock Triple Chocolate Chip cookies, and super mini Chocolate Mint Whoopie Pies.

So, if you are following our math, that’s roughly 200 pieces x 3 items = 600 pieces. Yeah, six hundred. And after a 5 day marathon of baking, this is no small undertaking. But, here we are, late into the night, and the baking is nearly complete. Tomorrow morning we will bake cookies, assemble the whoopie pies and make buttercream. We load in to the event at 5pm- and then it’s go time.

It feels like so long ago that we were loading 500 cookies into the car, but it was just this morning. This marathon baking extravaganza is nearing it’s end, and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ve learned a lot about multiplying recipes, packaging, and ribbon tying.

Mostly, we’ve learned that we’d rather sprint. Regardless, we still feel like champs!

Goodnight.
